Biography

Jeffrey Falkenstein joined the Foundation Center’s publishing staff in 1992 and currently serves as VP of Data Acquisition and Architecture.  He is responsible for the content of all database-driven Foundation Center publications and products.  He manages the publication of numerous annual print and electronic publications, directs the ongoing development of the Center’s numerous editorial databases, and establishes all editorial policies and procedures.

A seasoned researcher, writer, and editor with over 15 years of experience in the nonprofit sector and nearly 20 years of database publishing experience, Mr. Falkenstein is the principal editor of the PRI Directory and Celebrity Foundation Directory.  He has direct oversight of the data-gathering efforts supporting The Foundation Directory, National Directory of Corporate Giving, Foundation Grants to Individuals, Subject Guide series, Grant Guide series, and Foundation Directory Online.  These are produced from the Center’s custom database, which includes records for nearly 100,000 grant making organizations and over 2 million grants.  Earlier in his tenure at the Center, he served as editor of The National Directory of Corporate Giving.

Prior to joining the Foundation Center, Mr. Falkenstein was an editor with RR Bowker, working on Books in Print and Literary Marketplace.  He received a dual bachelor’s degree in English and Ancient Classics from SUNY Buffalo.

Mr. Falkenstein was selected to partake in the 2010 American Express Leadership Academy. Launched in 2008, the Leadership Academy, in partnership with the Center for Creative Leadership, provides emerging  leaders with leadership skills training in an effort to prepare them for leadership positions in the nonprofit sector. Emerging leaders from community, environmental, international relief and cultural organizations come together for a week of training focused on building the personal, business and leadership skills needed to run and lead a successful organization.
