Robert A. Rusbuldt is President & Chief Executive Officer of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America, Inc. (IIABA, or the Big “I”), the oldest and largest insurance group in the country. He joined the association in May 1986 and was named CEO in April 2001.
During his time at IIABA, Rusbuldt earned recognition as one of the leading lobbyists on tax, banking, insurance and financial services issues in Washington, D.C. The Washington Post, The Hill, and Roll Call all have named Rusbuldt as one of the “hot” top lobbyists in Washington. His expertise ranges from disaster preparedness and response, to insurance regulation and business trends, to consumers’ insurance needs.
Also one of the most respected Republican advisers and strategists in Washington, Rusbuldt is well known for his tenacity, knowledge of the issues, and impeccable GOP connections. He was a surrogate speaker for the McCain presidential campaign. He co-founded Victory America, a Republican PAC, with the late Gov. Carroll Campbell. Previously, Rusbuldt served as a surrogate speaker for the Bush-Cheney campaigns in 2000 and 2004. He has been a top consultant to countless other congressional and presidential campaigns. His work on the Hill has been acclaimed by such noteworthy publications as The Washington Post, Roll Call, The Hill, and The Washington Business Journal.
A frequent talk show commentator, Rusbuldt has offered commentary on insurance, political, legislative and policy issues on CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, Fox News Channel and others.
Rusbuldt’s tenure in Washington includes five years as Legislative Director for Rep. Carroll Campbell (R-S.C.), where he was responsible for House Ways and Means Committee work. He also was the Legislative Director for the American Insurance Association, representing some of the largest property-casualty insurance companies in the country. Rusbuldt was a Program Analyst at the U.S. Department of Labor, and spent one year as a Research Analyst for the Federation of Tax Administrators.
Rusbuldt has authored articles on tax policy, insurance, banking, economic, legislative and political issues.
Rusbuldt graduated Summa Cum Laude from King’s College in Briarcliff Manor, N.Y. with a degree in History/Political Science. In 1981, Rusbuldt received his Master of Arts in Political Science from American University in Washington, D.C. He was chosen to participate in the Symposium on the Presidency in 1978 and the American Studies Program.
